Dar Gymkhana win CRDB Inter-Club title

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar Es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) golf team has won the CRDB Inter-Club Coast Zone 2024 Competition overall team title, much to the surprise of their opponents.

The trio-club competition took place at the TPDF Lugalo course over the weekend, with the visitors outclassing their closest opponents, the hosts, by 11 pairs of matches to seven to take the title.

The DGC team beat hosts TPDF Lugalo and Morogoro Gymkhana Club (MGC) in an exciting battle, which was divided into two main categories: pairs and individual battles.

Peter Fiwa and Joseph Tango of Lugalo won the prize for the best pair, beating their Morogoro Gymkhana opponents with 8/7 holes to go. Chediel Msechu won the best assist prize for his partner on the Lugalo team, while MGC captain Seifu Mcharo won it for his partner, and Kiki Ayonga won it for the DGC team.

In the Men Division A category, Peter Fiwa won the top prize with a score of 70 nett, while Nsajigwa Mwansasu carded 73 nett to take second place in the individual prizes.

Logan Grobean won the Men B Division for the DGC with 69 nett, with Chediel Msechu of Lugalo taking second place. DGC Barmeda Ashid won the Division C title with a score of 71 net, ahead of host Ali Mwalimu who also had 71 net on count back.

In the senior category, host Ibrahim Muhona won the top prize with 73 nets, while his clubmate Jean Yang finished second with 76 nets. In the ladies’ category, Lugalo dominated with Dafroza Elam and Vicky Elias winning first and second prizes respectively, with scores of 70 and 73 net.

The longest drive prize was won by DGC’s Claver Selumaga in the men’s category, while Lugalo’s Leticia Kapalia took the ladies’ prize. The nearest to the pin prize was won by Lugalo’s Vicky Elias.

The smart golfer’s top prizes went to Jiten Lavingia, Nicholas Zambekitas, and Nsajigwa Mwansasu for DGC, MGC, and Lugalo respectively, while Joyce Ndyetabura won the ladies’ prize. All the winners were presented with their trophies and prize money at the closing Gala Dinner, which was attended by the Chief Guest of TPDF Air Force Commander Major General Shabaan Mani.

He congratulated the winners and complimented both clubs for their excellent tournament. He also thanked the main sponsors CRDB Bank, and co-sponsors TBL, SBL, and Serena Hotels for their successful cooperation at the competition, and congratulated TGU and TLGU for good management.

Last year, Lugalo and DGC competed against each other at the club friendship tournament, which saw Lugalo beat their counterparts by 14 to nine matches to win the title.
