MUUNGANO CUP: Another ‘Kariakoo Derby’ looming in Zanzibar

ZANZIBAR: There is a prospect to witness a third traditional derby of the season in Zanzibar as Simba and Young Africans will compete in re-introduced Muungano Cup 2024.

This has been confirmed on Tuesday by the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) president Suleiman Mahmoud Jabir who says the contest will involve only four teams.

“For the time being, we are going to have four teams competing for the title… from Zanzibar, we will have KMKM and KVZ while Tanzania Mainland will be represented by Simba and Yanga,” he said.

He added that dates for the thrilling four-team contest will be announced in due course.

“As you know, President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar President Hussein Mwinyi discussed about seeing the return of Muungano Cup and we are pleased to implement their wishes.

“We hope that President Samia will concede to be the guest of honour on the final day of the competition,” he said.

Already, Yanga and Simba will meet on April 20th at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam for epic traditional derby showdown in the Premier League.
