Yanga blame fatigue for slender win

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans head coach, Miguel Gamondi has blamed fatigue for his team’s slim victory over Namungo whose coach, Cedric Kaze praised his team’s spirit in spite of the loss.
Young Africans fought hard to pick up a slender 1-0 win against resilient Namungo, with a winner netted by Mudathir Yahya in the 87th minute at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.
The slim win stretched Yanga’s unbeaten run campaign to three games and they have scored 11 goals without conceding a goal in the process.
“We played so slow and sometimes we made wrong decisions. Maybe the players were a bit tired. We were not in our best form today and missed one clear chance that of Max Nzengeli.
“But the most important is a win. We cannot afford to draw at home and we need to work hard for the upcoming CAF Champions League second leg preliminary round against Al Merrikh,” said Gamondi after the match.
According to Kaze, they played well defensively, though he highlighted his charges lost possession frequently, especially in the second half.
“We played a defensive game. If we had the right decisions upfront, we could have scored and put them under pressure,” remarked Kaze.
He added: “I cannot complain about players’ commitment. They put everything into the game…I think we lack technical qualities upfront to make things simple. I hope we are going to be better in our upcoming league games.”
The outcome left Namungo plastered at the 15th place with one point in the bag. They are still yawning for their first win of the season after a win-less run in three consecutive matches.
Before the game, a minute silence was observed as one way to pay respect to four Namungo fans who passed away in road carnage en route to Dar es Salaam to support their team on Wednesday morning.
