Tanzania to host international Pickleball tournament as seven nations confirm participation

DAR ES SALAAM: MORE than seven countries, including Kenya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa and Dubai are expected to arrive in the country for the Pickleball tournament scheduled to take place from May 27 to 31 this year.

This was announced today by Kartik Kapoor, President of the Pickleball Association in Tanzania, who said the tournament will be held at the Gymkhana Club grounds in Dar es Salaam. He added that sports are an opportunity for people to come together and exchange experience, and encouraged the public to participate.

Kapoor also said the tournament is a major event and that Tanzania has been privileged to host it, noting that it will bring benefits and value to both the nation and the community at large.

On their part, coaches Mathew David and Peter Kally said the sport does not necessarily require special or permanent courts, as it can be played anywhere. They added that some regions, including Kagera Region and Morogoro Region, are already actively playing the game.

Meanwhile, players Sall Odak and Edna Mfinanga said they are well prepared for the tournament and are aiming to win and gain greater opportunities through the sport.
