Underperforming auditors to face disciplinary measures
FINANCE and Planning Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has stressed that disciplinary measures will be taken against internal auditors in councils and ministries, who fail to audit development projects in their areas in time.
He said the government has been spending a lot of money but many development projects do not match with the allocated funds.
Dr Nchemba made the remarks on Sunday after inspecting development projects at Ndago Division in Iramba District, Singida Region.
He said the auditors in the district councils up to the ministries, who wait until projects are completed to be audited by external auditors risk being fired.
“In any area where projects are being implemented, I will talk to the chairmen of the councils and all parliamentarians. When an external auditor finds out that the project that he/she was going to audit had not been audited by internal auditor, the particular internal auditor risks losing their jobs,” Dr Nchemba said.
Moreover, Dr Nchemba noted that there was a growing tendency among some civil servants, who after being employed; just decide to enjoy salaries without working.
“It is surprising to see an area with more than three engineers and they are paid salaries each month, but they do not do any inspection of the projects,” he noted.
Regarding irrigation projects, Dr Nchemba explained that during this financial year and the forthcoming year, the government would focus on reviving irrigation introducing schemes.
He added: “There will be machines for drilling wells and irrigation dams in different areas, and hence, may I ask the residents to earmark all the areas suitable for initiating irrigation schemes.”
Elaborating, he has also asked the residents of Iramba District’s wards to cooperate with party leaders and the government when carrying out their duties.
He explained that the government was continuing with its efforts to build health, education and water infrastructures, arguing that there was no reason to engage in conflict over deciding areas for setting up the project, because when the funds come, they will be channeled to the areas that currently do not have those services.
Dr Nchemba is continuing with his visit to inspect development projects in the wards within his constituency of Iramba West, noting that the government strives to address various problems facing the people.
His itinerary included Ndulungu, Kaselya, Mbelekese and Ndago, where he inspected schemes for water, schools, roads and health centres’ developments.
