DEPUTY Minister for Works, Godfrey Kasekenya has said that the government will procure two sea taxis to provide ferry services between Magogoni and Kigamboni Creek in Dar es Salaam before the end of this fiscal year.
Eng Kasekenya informed the august House yesterday that the procurement process was ongoing for the purchase of taxis with a capacity to carry 250 passengers, each.
The deputy minister was responding to a basic question by Kigamboni MP Faustine Ndugulile who wanted to know when will the construction of the new Kigamboni ferry start after the allocation of funds in the 2022/2023 fiscal year.
Responding, Eng Kasekenya said the ministry through the Tanzania Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics Services Agency (TEMESA) in this financial year has allocated funds for the purchase of a new ferry for Magogoni – Kigamboni station.
“But, experience gained using sea taxi leased from Azam Marine Company, has shown that the ferries are more effective in solving the problem of passenger delays. Thus we decided to opt for that one,” he said.
