TWCP calls on Tanzanians to safeguard peace, national unity
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Women Cross Party (TWCP) – Ulingo platform has called on Tanzanians to continue upholding peace and security, which are considered national treasures.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the International Day of Peace, which is marked on September 21, the TWCP Coordinator and Secretary-General of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Ms Saumu Rashid, emphasized the importance of these values.
Ms Rashid highlighted the steps taken by President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan to promote reconciliation and national unity, particularly through her philosophy of the 4Rs: Reconciliation, Reform, Resilience, and Rebuilding.
She said these guiding principles have played a key role in ensuring political and social stability in the country.
“President Dr Samia has taken important steps to strengthen reconciliation and national unity. Her philosophy of the Four Rs – Reconciliation, Reform, Resilience, and Rebuilding – has served as a guiding principle to ensure political and social stability,” Ms Rashid stated.
She further called upon Tanzanians to unite in educating their communities about the Four Rs philosophy, as this would help safeguard peace and, more importantly, protect children and youth who may otherwise be vulnerable to exploitation by groups with harmful intentions.
“It is important for us to recognise that statements which incite violence, spread fear, or disseminate false information can have a negative impact on the country’s overall stability,” Ms Rashid warned, adding that every Tanzanian bears the responsibility of contributing to peace and security for the benefit of all, rather than engaging in acts of violence.

Also speaking at the event, Ms Mwajuma Noti, the Chairperson of the Union for Multiparty Democracy (UMD) Women, urged female leaders not to allow themselves to be used in ways that could disrupt peace. “In carrying out these political activities, peace allows us to be here and engage in other activities. I ask my fellow Tanzanians, including leaders, to safeguard our peace,” she said.
Ms Noti acknowledged that President Samia has continued to ensure peace and stability in the country and called upon security forces to keep fulfilling their duties to maintain this environment.
Neema Mwakitange, Secretary of the Democratic Party (DP) Women, echoed similar sentiments, emphasising that peace is a national treasure that should be protected by all Tanzanians. She urged her fellow citizens not to allow themselves to be influenced by those seeking to disrupt peace.
“Peace concerns all of us,” Ms Mwakitange said. “Our counterparts are learning about peace from us, so we must not allow a few individuals to exploit us and destroy the peace that is our heritage.”
Ms Nuru Kimwaga, Chairperson of the Tanzania Labour Party (TLP) Women, also spoke about the importance of peace and stability, while encouraging women to step up and register for leadership positions at all levels, starting from local government.
“Women need to participate and compete for leadership roles to achieve equal representation,” Ms Kimwaga said. “We must not lose hope but instead continue to move forward, support the President’s efforts, and refuse to be exploited.”
In conclusion, the TWCP – Ulingo platform reinforced the message that all Tanzanians have a role to play in protecting the peace and stability of their country. Leaders were urged to remain vigilant and to prevent any attempts to destabilise the nation.
