TPA bolsters security at Dar and Lake Victoria ports with 6.445m US dollars boats

DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has strengthened security operations at the Port of Dar es Salaam and Lake Victoria ports following the acquisition of two modern patrol boats worth 6.445 million US dollars.

The vessels, MV LINDO I and MV LINDO II, are part of a wider investment aimed at enhancing the safety of ships, cargo and port users, while improving response to security threats and emergencies within port waters.

Speaking on behalf of the Director General, Director of Marine Services and Port Operations, Captain Abdulla Mwingamno, said the investment demonstrates TPA’s commitment to ensuring Tanzania’s ports remain secure, efficient and aligned with international standards.

He said the boats, which can reach speeds of up to 35 knots, will enable rapid patrol operations, improve response to emergencies and help curb theft, pilferage and smuggling activities in and around port areas and beaches.

Additionally, the Captain said strengthened security is expected to boost trader confidence, increase cargo throughput, improve service delivery and ultimately raise revenues for both TPA and the Government.

He added that alongside the patrol boats, TPA continues to invest in modern surveillance systems, including more than 480 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, to enhance monitoring and ensure Tanzania ports remain competitive, secure and capable of handling growing trade volumes.
