Tanzania compensates 343 Msimbo residents affected by wildlife attacks

KATAVI: THE Tanzanian government has set aside 100m/- in the 2025/2026 financial year to compensate 343 residents of Nsimbo district who suffered losses due to attacks by dangerous and destructive wildlife.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Hamad Hassan Chande, announced this during a public meeting in Katavi Region, as part of follow-up activities from Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba’s nationwide inspection tour.

According to the minister, the ministry has already disbursed payments to 181 victims through the electronic Problem Animals Information System (PAIS), and urged affected residents to ensure their registered phone numbers match their names to avoid delays in payment.

“Some people registered in the PAIS system using phone numbers linked to NIDA IDs that are not theirs. When the system cross-checks with MUSE, names do not match,” he said.

However, the minister pledged that they will make sure every victim is paid even if the system does not immediately accept them by directing our officials to verify payments on the ground,” Chande stressed.
