‘Serve with integrity, wisdom
DODOMA: PRESIDENT Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged newly swornin Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi to serve the nation with loyalty, integrity, patriotism, wisdom and professionalism, putting national interests first.
President Dr Samia made the call yesterday in Dodoma when she swore in Mr Ndejembi as Vice-President, saying his appointment was part of efforts to nurture young leaders.
She said Mr Ndejembi was entrusted with a major responsibility at a relatively young age and should use the opportunity to learn from experienced leaders, broaden his knowledge and serve with dedication, discipline and patriotism.
“At a young age, we have entrusted you with a major responsibility. Go and grow, not in age, but in wisdom and understanding,” President Samia said.
She cautioned Mr Ndejembi against treating his position as a privilege for personal pride, stressing that it was a responsibility entrusted to him by Tanzanians and should therefore be exercised in the interests of all citizens, regardless of their differences.
“Go and grow, not in age but in wisdom. Do not be like a fish, which as it grows bigger it becomes less intelligent. So, my son, go and grow; we have given you great responsibilities, and I believe you will be able to fulfil them,” she said.
Dr Samia said the CCM Central Committee and National Executive Committee considered various qualifications and attributes before endorsing Mr Ndejembi, including his energy, commitment and ability to work diligently in implementing government programmes.
“We decided that we should return the position to the youth and continue nurturing them. It has moved from one young person, and we have returned it to another young person. Now, young man, we ask you to go and grow,” she said. She said there was no school that specifically trained a person to become Vice-President, noting that experience, hard work, discipline and willingness to learn would be essential in carrying out the new responsibilities.
“There is no school that teaches someone how to be a Vice-President. None. But your qualities of hard work, discipline, professionalism and willingness to learn, follow up and supervise the implementation of various activities will help you fulfil these responsibilities,” she said.
President Dr Samia said Tanzania had numerous responsibilities to implement through the CCM Election Manifesto and the National Development Vision, stressing that successful implementation required unity, solidarity, cooperation and stability within the government.
She said Mr Ndejembi’s experience in various leadership positions in both the public and private sectors would help him discharge his new responsibilities effectively.
President Dr Samia also thanked Mr Ndejembi for accepting the national responsibility, as well as CCM organs that proposed and endorsed his name and Parliament, under Speaker Mussa Zungu, for unanimously confirming him.
Mr Ndejembi’s nomination followed the resignation of former Vice-President Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, who submitted his resignation to President Samia on August 25, 2026, which the President accepted.
The CCM Central Committee met on August 26 and proposed Mr Ndejembi for the country’s second-highest constitutional office before the nomination was endorsed by the CCM National Executive Committee.
On Friday, the Parliament subsequently confirmed Mr Ndejembi unanimously, with all 324 votes cast in the National Assembly in Dodoma, making him the youngest person to hold the country’s second-highest constitutional office.
