Tanesco given 23-day ultimatum to connect schools

KATAVI Regional Commissioner (RC), Ms Mwanamvua Mrindoko has issued a 23 – day ultimatum to Tanzania National Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) to ensure all newly built health facilities, primary and secondary schools in all districts are connected to power.

She said the move is to improve quality of health and education services in public institutions.

Equally, the RC directed Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) Mr Hassan Rugwa to ensure that her directives are implemented accordingly.

Ms Mrindoko issued the directives after she inspected the newly built Kazima Health Centre in Mpanda Municipality

“All newly built hospitals, health centres, dispensaries, as well as newly built primary and secondary schools in all three districts in the region must be connected to electricity,” she emphasized.

She also directed Mpanda District Commissioner (DC), Ms Jamila Yusuph and members of the district security committee to inspect all projects which were implemented during the 2022/2023 financial year in the precinct to find out if they are completed as per deadline.

RC Mrindoko expressed her satisfaction over the completion of the newly built Kazima Health Centre whose construction has reflected value for money.

Meanwhile, residents of Kazima in Mpanda Municipality will now breathe a sigh of relief as they will no longer need to travel for long to access health services, following the completion of a new health facility at the precinct.

Dwellers from the precinct thanked the government for financing the project, which has guaranteed them healthcare services closer to where they live.

Medical in Charge of Kazima Health Centre, Dr Herman Kimango briefed the RC that the government has allocated more than 150m/- for 2023/2024 FY for procurement of medical devices.

On behalf of the citizens, Franco’s Ferouz, an elder in the community expressed his joy following the completion of the project.

“The health facility will be of great help especially to expectant mothers, who in most cases were forced to make a long trek to access healthcare services,” explained Mr Ferouz.

He went on to say that construction of the health facility was a big boost to citizens from the precincts, who will not need to make a long trek to access health services.

Addressing a public meeting, RC Ms Mrindoko said the construction of the health facility will provide health services to hundreds of people at Kazima and nearby areas.
