Dar Police nab four Chinese nationals for kidnapping their fellow businessmen

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have arrested four Chinese nationals in connection with the abduction of two of their fellow businessmen in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam today, May 25, 2026,  SACP Jumanne Muliro said the incident occurred on May 14, 2026 at around 4:30pm in the PSSSF buildings along Mission Street in Ilala District.

Elaborating, Muliro said that the victims, identified as Weiyi Chen (64) and Liang Xiolo (44), both Chinese nationals and businessmen, were ambushed by a group of seven people and forcibly taken to an unknown location.

SACP Muliro said police, working together with other security agencies, launched an immediate investigation and managed to trace vehicles allegedly used in the kidnapping, including a Toyota Alphard bearing registration number T.305 DRP and a Toyota Harrier with registration number T.188 DHT, which were suspected to have irregular plates.

He added that the suspects later issued threats to the victims’ relatives, demanding a ransom of 20 million US dollars for their release.

Moreover, he said the police successfully rescued the two hostages on May 16, 2026 in Mbezi area, Dar es Salaam Region, where they were found with injuries on various parts of their bodies.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Deng Anqing (49), Fan Zhong (49), Zhang Jianjun (51) and Deng Qiang (40), all Chinese nationals.

SACP Muliro said the suspects were found in possession of the victims’ mobile phones and other items believed to be linked to the crime, adding that investigations are ongoing and anyone implicated will face legal action.
