Students depart to pursue degrees in high-demand global fields
DAR ES SALAAM: MORE than 95 Tanzanian students have departed the country for India to pursue higher education at various universities, forming the first group of 198 students expected to travel to India through Global Education Link in 2026.
The students departed through Terminal 3 of Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, with the majority opting for programmes in science, technology and other disciplines considered highly relevant to the demands of the modern global economy.
Their chosen fields include Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Civil Engineering, various health-related programmes, Law and Business Administration.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Director of Global Education Link, the company’s Dar es Salaam Branch Manager, Micky Musa, said the departure of the students was part of a broader initiative to connect Tanzanian youth with international education opportunities.
“More than 95 students are departing in this first group for India, while throughout this year we expect a total of 198 students to pursue their studies there. This is not the final group, as we still have other students completing the necessary procedures,” Musa said.
He added that, in addition to India, Global Education Link was preparing another group of approximately 185 students who are expected to travel to China, while other students were at various stages of preparations to pursue studies in Malaysia, the United States and the United Kingdom.
“As time progresses, Tanzanians will continue to see more groups of students departing to pursue studies abroad. We encourage young people who aspire to study overseas to visit our offices in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Zanzibar, Mwanza and Arusha. There is still time. Come with your academic results, and Global Education Link is ready to help turn your aspirations into reality,” he said.
Musa also encouraged parents and guardians whose children aspire to pursue education abroad to utilise Global Education Link’s services for guidance on university selection, academic programmes, admissions, visa processing and travel preparations.
Among those who departed were students pursuing programmes related to Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security. The students said they had chosen these fields in response to the rapid pace of technological advancement and the growing importance of digital skills in modern economic development.
Alvin Andrew Munda, aged 17, who is travelling to Lovely Professional University in India, said he had chosen to study Computer Science because he wanted to develop practical skills in technology and eventually specialise in Cyber Security.
He said the university’s emphasis on practical learning and laboratory-based training was among the factors that influenced his decision to choose the institution.
“I prefer a learning system that places greater emphasis on practical training rather than focusing solely on theory and examinations. I want to use the knowledge I gain to develop solutions and eventually specialise in Cyber Security because cyber security is increasingly important in today’s world,” he said.
Expressing his appreciation to Global Education Link, Munda said the organisation had supported his family throughout the entire process, from university selection to completing preparations for his departure.
“Global has supported me throughout the entire process. They guided us through every stage and served as a link between us, our parents and the university until we reached this point at the airport, ready to depart,” he said.
Another student travelling to pursue studies related to Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence said he expected to become a specialist in data and technology in the coming years.
He said Artificial Intelligence had already become an important component of banking, healthcare, business, government and other sectors, adding that education in the field would position him to contribute to Tanzania’s technological advancement.
Another student pursuing a combined Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Laws programme said he aspired to become both a successful lawyer and entrepreneur after completing his studies.
He said Global Education Link had played a significant role in helping him reach the stage of travelling abroad for higher education.
“Global Education has supported us tremendously, particularly with visa processing, university placement and other travel preparations. The collaboration between myself, my parents and Global Education has brought us to where we are today,” he said.
Parents who accompanied their children to Julius Nyerere International Airport also commended Global Education Link for effectively managing the students’ preparations from the initial stages through to their departure.
Donald Kito, the parent of Isaac Donald Kito, who is travelling to Lovely Professional University to pursue a Diploma in Civil Engineering, said his family first learned about Global Education Link through advertisements.
He said that after contacting the organisation, the family received detailed information and guidance that gave them confidence to proceed with the education placement process.
The departure of the students highlights the growing interest among Tanzanian youth in pursuing internationally recognised qualifications, particularly in technology, engineering, business, law and other fields aligned with the evolving demands of the global economy.
