YOUNG Africans have revealed that the signings they have made for next season are to strengthen weak areas of the team in a bid to make a stronger squad than that of the 2022/23 season.
Yanga had a successful season, winning three silverware and a CAF Confederation silver medal, hoping to maintain their success as in 2021/2022, when they also won a treble of thrones.
The club’s president Hersi Said made the remarks on Monday in Dar es Salaam when the team received last season’s performance bonus from its main sponsor SportPesa.
Yanga received a dummy cheque of 450m/- where the president thanked SportPesa on behalf of the club for their endless support throughout last season.
“We are here to receive a bonus from our main sponsors following last season’s performance. We won the Community Shield, Premier League, Azam Sports Federation Cup (ASFC), and silver medals in the CAF Confederation Cup finals,” he said.
Commenting on the newly recruited players, Said noted: “We have signed good players who will add quality to our squad. We looked at the weak areas and surfaced them. It’s our hope we maintain the success.”
Until now the Jangwani street giants have just completed a signing of Nickson Kibabage, who has joined the defending champions from the rebranded Singida Fountain Gate FC.
He further called on the club members and fans to maintain their faith in the team as he promised good things to come.
“We request our esteemed members and fans to continue trusting in us for the next three years as we have put in place good things to make them happy to enjoy being part of the club,” Hersi said.
SportPesa’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Abbas Tarimba, said they are always delighted to be part of the ambitious club lauding them for their remarkable season where they narrowly missed an opportunity to win the CAF Confederation Cup title.
