Political parties’ council praise Samia for building democracy

LEADERS of political parties in the country have expressed their happiness following the decision by the Union government to allocate funds for running the ‘Political Parties Council (PPC),’ a move that will help build democracy and enable the parties to carry out their duties.

This was said by the Chairperson of the Political Parties’ Council Mr Juma Ali Khatib, when he spoke to journalists here about the decision made by the Union government to support the council fund some of its activities.

The decision was revealed recently by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Coordination and Parliamentary Affairs) Jenista Mhagama.

She said President Samia Suluhu Hassan had considered allocating a budget of about 1.5bn/- so that the Council would be able to run its office smoothly.

“We commend the president for her workable plan to build democracy in the country,” said Mr Khatib.

He informed journalists here that the move by Dr Samia was a milestone in ongoing efforts to build the country inclusively as promised by the Head of State through her political reconciliation that led to the establishment of the council.

The Demokrasia Makini party Secretary General Mr Ameir Hassan Ameir said President Samia deserves to be commended for her great efforts to build democracy in a multi-party system, so that the parties have the opportunity to fulfill their responsibilities to the society.

“Political parties are happy with the efforts of Dr Samia is taking, in building democracy, including the permission to hold public rallies meetings of political parties in the country, which was among her promises to politicians when we met her,” Mr Ameir said.

Veteran politician Mr Hamad Rashid Mohamed said the government’s decision to allocate a budget for the PPC shows the government’s readiness in the implementation of smooth democracy and to strengthen cooperation with opposition parties.

“President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan has been doing well in the implementation of her promises to politicians based on the 4Rs (Reconciliation, Resiliency, Reforms, and Rebuilding). She is performing well in promoting democracy in a multi-party system in the country,” Mr Mohamed said.

Earlier, the Deputy Registrar of Political Parties in the country, Mohamed Ali Ahmed, said that the Registrar’s Office had great expectations to see political parties implement the agenda of patriotism to their country including promoting political stability even with freedom to conduct public rallies.
