DODOMA: THE Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Ms. Felister Mdemu, has called on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in Tanzania to continue delivering community services efficiently and in alignment with the goals of their respective projects.
Speaking in Dodoma during a meeting that brought together representatives from various NGO networks, Ms. Mdemu emphasized the vital role NGOs play in reaching communities directly and addressing their pressing challenges.
“We urge NGOs to continue serving the community, as they are the second arm of the government in this area. The government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for them to fulfill their responsibilities,” Mdemu stated.
She also appealed to NGOs to participate in educating citizens on their civic responsibilities, particularly in the lead-up to the 2025 General Elections, to ensure peaceful and active participation in electing ethical leaders for the nation’s development.

“NGO networks are present in every part of the country and carry out diverse roles. It is important to use this opportunity to promote peace, patriotism, and civic engagement in the electoral process,” she added.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of NGOs, Ms. Vickness Mayao, said the purpose of the meeting was to assess the performance of the organizations in preparation for the Annual National NGO Forum scheduled for August 11–13, 2025, in Dodoma.
On his part, Mr. Charles Lwabulala, the Public Relations Officer from Iringa Civil Society Organization, commended the Registrar’s Office for improving service delivery to NGOs through online platforms, a move that has significantly reduced the cost and time associated with accessing these essential services.
