VETA deepens mining training partnership

FINLAND: THE Director General of the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA), CPA Anthony Kasore, has emphasised the importance of strengthening vocational skills in mining and mineral value addition as Tanzania continues to implement strategies for increasing local participation in the extractive sector.

CPA Kasore made the remarks over the weekend during his visit to REDUEdu College in Rovaniemi, Finland, where 25 VETA instructors are undergoing specialised training in mining and mineral value chains.

He urged the instructors to return home ready to transform technical skills development and contribute to the growth of Tanzania’s mining industry.

The training programme is conducted under the European Union-funded project known as “Vocational Pathway to Sustainable Critical Raw Minerals in Tanzania,” which seeks to strengthen technical capacity in mining and mineral beneficiation.

The initiative is being implemented through cooperation between VETA and development partners including GIZ, GTK, SNL and REDU from Finland. CPA Kasore said his visit aimed at assessing the progress of the programme and ensuring that trainees acquire the competencies needed to support the country’s growing mining sector.

“That is why we held discussions with our colleagues from REDUEdu and GTK to assess the training arrangements, implementation progress and areas that may require improvement,” he said.

He encouraged the instructors to take advantage of the opportunity by learning not only technical skills but also modern workshop organisation and practical training methods used in Finland.

Meanwhile, VETA Director of Human Resources and Administration, Enihart Mahudi, urged the instructors to maintain discipline and uphold public service ethics during their stay abroad.

“Use this opportunity to learn as much as possible and protect the image of our country. The skills you acquire should help improve the mining sector and build the capacity of fellow trainers and citizens,” he said.

Leader of the instructors’ delegation, Yona Mwambapa, thanked VETA management for facilitating the programme, saying it would strengthen instructors’ practical knowledge and improve the delivery of technical education in Tanzania.
