RESULTS of 540 candidates who sat for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), this year, have been withheld for irregularities.
The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA) announced this on Thursday citing cheating as the reason for council to withhold results of the said candidates.
Announcing the PSLE results in Dar es Salaam, NECTA’s Acting Executive Secretary, Athuman Almasi told reporters that the candidates are from six schools.
He said schools whose pupils have been affected by the decision are Green Acres, Joylanda, Castle Hill, Maktaba, Great Vision and Mtendeni.
“These schools are accused of cheating and we are running an investigation on the matter, if investigation proves true, then the schools will be banned. If proved otherwise, we will release their results,” he stated.
He however said that the council has the mandate to cancel the result of candidates if proved beyond the reason doubt that they cheated regardless of their academic certificate awarded to them.
Meanwhile NECTA has imposed ban to 24 primary school examination centres after being linked to cheating plans during Standard Seven final exams.
“We have banned them until the Council is satisfied that they are safe for conducting national examinations,” he said.
He mentioned the schools that have been stripped off the status as Kadama (Chato), Rweitiza (Kagera), Kilimanjaro (Arusha), Sahare (Tanga), St. Anne Marie (Dar es Salaam), Ukerewe (Mwanza), Karume (Kagera) and Al Hikma (Dar es Salaam).
