Mpango directs envoys to explore new avenues of cooperation

DAR ES SALAAM: VICE-President Dr Philip Mpango has urged ambassadors who are going to represent Tanzania in Zimbabwe and Rwanda to explore new avenues of cooperation that will enhance economic opportunities and strengthen the implementation of the Economic Diplo- macy Policy.

The VP also encouraged the diplomats to learn and adopt methods and skills that will facilitate the country’s development.

Dr Mpango made the remarks on Friday at the Magogoni State House in Dar es Salaam when he met and held discussion with High Commissioner Suzan Kaganda, who is going to represent Tanzania in Zimbabwe and Ambassador Dr Habib Kambangwa, who is assigned to represent Tanzania in Rwanda.

The two envoys were appointed and assigned to their duty stations in separate appointment made by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The former Commissioner of Police CP Kaganda, was appointed ambassador early December last year while Ambassador Kambangwa was appointed and assigned to serve in Rwanda in February this year.

“It is essential to ensure that you have accurate data on Tanzania’s social and economic development to effectively represent the country in your respective  areas, particularly in executing our economic diplomacy policy,” said Dr Mpango.

He urged them to make deliberate efforts in under- standing the countries where they will represent Tanzania, acquiring insights into their economic development fundamentals and then transfer the knowledge back to the country.

The VP further encouraged them to market Tanzania’s opportunities in those countries, including significant improvements in ports and various transportation infrastructure.

He also stressed on the significance of promoting Kiswahili language, empha- sising the need to seek opportunities for teachers to teach the language in their respective countries of representation.

Dr Mpango also urged the diplomats to promote trade between Tanzania and their host countries, including seeking markets for various Tanzanian products and connecting country’s producers to the markets.

He encouraged them to foster cooperation and implement agreements of the joint commission for cooperation between Tanzania and the countries.

Speaking on the key national priorities, Dr Mpango urged the ambassadors to understand the key data from the draft of the National Development Vision, Chama Cha Mapinduzi 2020-2025 election manifesto and the National Development plans.

The VP also said that it is important for them to learn from their predecessors by obtaining important information so as to ensure continuity in the execution of their duties.

He said that, ambassadors should seek out, engage and connect all Tanzanians residing in the countries where they are going carry out their diplomatic duties, fostering a shared vision and inspiring them to contribute to Tanzania’s development.

Moreover, Dr Mpango congratulated them on their appointment and being entrust by President Samia to represent Tanzania abroad, urging them to protect and advocate for national interests.

The Sixth Phase Government implements with special emphasis its economic diplomacy, mostly through its envoys in different countries.
