Integrity must remain key to lifelong prosperity

DAR ES SALAAM: WE must admit that the journey of youth is a delicate season of learning, patience and preparation for the future. Many young people today are tempted to rush into wealth acquisition without understanding consequences. Such impatience often leads to poor decisions, unethical shortcuts and eventual regret in life.
It is important for youths, especially those in public offices, to uphold honesty and responsibility. Leadership positions require integrity because society depends on fair service delivery and trust. When wealth is obtained through dubious means, it rarely brings peace or stability.
To emphasise this, even the holy scriptures across traditions warn that ill-gotten wealth does not endure or benefit its owner. Instead, such gains often fade away before they can be meaningfully enjoyed or sustained.
Young people should therefore embrace discipline, hard work and continuous learning as guiding principles. They must resist pressures of greed, lust and shortcuts that promise quick but unstable riches. Peace and harmony are essential values that every young person should promote in society. As they go about their daily activities, they should also encourage coexistence and mutual respect.
A society built on honesty and patience will always achieve sustainable development and lasting peace. Therefore, the youth must remember that true success comes through effort, patience and integrity alone.
Young citizens must also understand that wealth without ethical foundation is fragile and temporary. The pursuit of money should never override moral values or respect for human dignity.
Public service especially demands accountability, transparency and commitment to the welfare of all citizens. Those entrusted with authority must remember they serve the people, not personal interests. Rushing into wealth often blinds individuals to risks, consequences and long-term repercussions.

Patience allows young people to develop skills, build character and achieve sustainable success. Ultimately, success achieved through integrity brings lasting fulfilment and genuine respect from society. Conversely, dishonesty may appear rewarding but it erodes trust and leads to downfall.
The youth are therefore, encouraged to focus on education, skills development and positive contribution to society. They should avoid peer pressure that promotes illegal activities or unethical wealth accumulation practices. Harmony among communities is strengthened when young people choose peace over conflict and division. This attitude fosters national development, unity and long-lasting coexistence among diverse groups.
