ILALA District Commissioner Ng’wilabuzu Ludigija has commended President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan following distribution of tablet computers to teachers in Dar es Salaam City Council.
Mr Ludigija expressed his gratitude over the weekend when handing over the tablet computers to the teachers of the Nguvumpya secondary school located in Chanika, Ilala District, in the city.
He said the devices will facilitate teaching for teachers and learning for students digitally and raise the quality of education in the country, as the world is currently more focused on the development of science and technology.
He added that those devices were among the 300,000 tablets bought by the government for the 2022 National Population and Housing Census which took place across the country in August last year.
“The tablets which we distributed are the ones which the government bought for the census, but later the President said they should be distributed. This is because she is a mother and loves our teachers because she knows the importance of teachers,” he stressed.
He asked the teachers to take care of the devices and use them for the intended purposes so that they can last long.
“We would not be able to go to all schools to hand over these gadgets to teachers, but these teachers present today would represent others, so I do believe you will use them well,” Ludigija noted.
On his part, Mayor of Dar es Salaam City Council, Omary Kumbilamoto, apart from applauding President Samia, promised to find more funds to ensure that all schools in the city have infrastructures for enabling digital teaching.
“Our President has given us a starting point, so we will look at our budgets and how we can enhance digital teaching in all our schools,” Kumbilamoto explained.
A total of 6,000 tablets are to be distributed to the Dar es Salaam City Council teachers.
The distribution of the tablets coincided with the inauguration of modern classrooms in the particular school, which were built under the funding from an initiative commonly known as ‘Pochi la Mama,’ (literally meaning ‘Mother’s wallet’).
