Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has bid farewell its twenty-six trainees for the 2021/2022 who are under a joint programme with the government.
GGML implements a training internship programme annually in partnership with the Ministry in the Office of the Prime Minister responsible for employment, youth, and people with disabilities, the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), and the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE).
GGML’s Senior Manager in charge of Health, Safety, Environment, and Training, Dr Kiva Mvungi, said the miner has been offering these training annually, and numerous young graduates have applied.
“Our objective is to ensure that the mining industry in this nation has access to a skilled workforce,” Dr Mvungi said.
Eng Ruth Mugurusi, who is employed in GGML’s blasting unit, is one of beneficiaries who got a job while at the internship programme.
“After my university education, I applied for and got this internship. As I was in training, a post was announced; my colleagues and I applied and passed the interview; and today, we are GGML employees,” said Eng Mugurusi.
Since the program’s inception in 2009, a total of 168 graduates have benefited, including 58 females and 110 males. The majority of them are employed by GGML at various departments such as process plant, engineering, technical, blasting, and mining.
