CHRAGG reminds right defenders to comply

Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG) Executive Secretary, Patience Ntwina has urged organizations dealing with human rights to adhere to the country’s laws and regulations.
Should said organisations do so, the secretary added, they will be able to operate smoothly.
Ntwina offered the piece of advice to the members of the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) in Tanzania and Horn of Africa at a training held in Dar es Salaa recently.
According to the CHRAGG boss, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs) are facing various challenges caused by failure to know the country’s laws and regulations as he insisted that the training should address the identified gaps. He added that some people may deliberately infringe regulations because they want to pursue their owned interests, something that will never be tolerated.
Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC)Meanwhile, director for Human Rights Defenders Coalition(THRDC), Onesmo Olengurumwa said the rights stakeholders have begun a week to advocate for an enabling and safe working environment for the Civil Society organisations in East Africa.
“It’s a period that we expect to learn and ensure that our works are recognized and honoured,” he said.
He congratulated President Samia Suluhu Hassan for advocating citizens’ rights On her part, Council for Civil Society organisations in Tanzania, Dk Lilian Badi admitted that the institution is aware of the trend of some stakeholders who are operating without observing laws and regulations.
