TKSA launches search for commonwealth Kabaddi players

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania National Kabaddi team has initiated a search for players for the 2026 Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship in India, with players from across the country invited to an initial meeting ahead of the selection process.

The Tanzania Kabaddi Sports Association (TKSA) has scheduled the meeting for September 19 at Mwembeyanga Grounds in Dar es Salaam, as preparations for the international event gather pace.

The meeting will bring together players interested in representing the country and provide them with information on preparations, eligibility and the selection process for the national squad.

Speaking during a training session, TKSA Head Coach Joseph Lusinde said the meeting was an important first step towards identifying players who will compete for places in the national team.

“This meeting targets all Kabaddi players in Tanzania who intend to participate in the process of forming the national team,” he said.

Lusinde urged interested players to attend the meeting on time, stressing that their participation would be important as the association begins the process of building the national squad.

He also called on invited players to spread the information among their colleagues to ensure that all eligible players get an opportunity to take part in the selection process.

“Also, players who receive the invitation should pass the information to their colleagues to ensure that no eligible player misses the opportunity to participate in the selection process,” he addressed.

Lusinde added that the preparations were aimed at enabling Tanzania to field a competitive national team at the 2026 Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship in India.

He said the championship would provide Tanzanian players with an opportunity to test themselves against international opposition while raising the country’s profile in the sport.

The coach urged eligible players to respond positively to the invitation and attend the meeting as the association moves towards assembling a team capable of representing Tanzania on the international stage
