UN decorates Tanzanian peacekeepers in CAR for good services

BERBERATI: Central African Republic: MORE than 500 Tanzanian peacekeepers serving in the Central African Republic (CAR) were awarded United Nations Peacekeeping Medals today, October 6, 2025, for their contribution to the UN mission MINUSCA.

The Tanzanian troops, part of the Eighth Battalion of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TANBAT 08), were honoured during a medal parade in the western city of Berberati.

The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Force Commander of the UN mission, Major General Maychel Asmi, who praised the battalion’s discipline, leadership and strong community engagement.

“The Tanzanian troops have made a great contribution not only in maintaining peace but also in building strong relationships with the local communities. This is an example for other forces to emulate,” Asmi said.

TANBAT 08 has been deployed in CAR as part of the UN’s efforts to protect civilians, support humanitarian work and stabilise conflict-affected areas.

Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Theofil Nguruwe said the medals reflect the professionalism and dedication of his troops.
