Top young Tanzanian professionals to attend global Nuclear Energy gala in Russia

Obninsk New 2026, Russia: Winners of the Atoms Empowering Africa video contest will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Obninsk NEW 2026, an international forum and summer school dedicated to the peaceful uses of nuclear technologies, taking place in Obninsk, Russia, from June 22 to June 27, 2026. This year’s edition of the contest is held in partnership with the BRICS Nuclear Platform, which supports international cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The programme will combine participation in the Obninsk NEW 2026 forum, an international platform bringing together young professionals, students and experts to discuss the future of nuclear technologies and global cooperation, with a specialised summer school for international students. The forum will focus on dialogue and exchange of ideas, while the summer school will provide a more practice-oriented learning environment through lectures, seminars and workshops.

Interest in the peaceful uses of nuclear technologies across Africa is increasingly supported by international cooperation and education initiatives. In Tanzania Rosatom’s mining division is developing the Mkuju River uranium project, while students from the country are receiving training and practical experience at partner universities in Russia. Such efforts contribute to building local expertise and highlight the importance of developing a new generation of professionals. Initiatives like Atoms Empowering Africa play a role in this process by providing young people with a platform to share their ideas.

The contest is open to young people from African countries aged 18 to 35. Participants are invited to submit a short video outlining how nuclear technologies can help address key challenges in their countries.

Submissions will be accepted until May 1. Further details on participation rules and submission requirements are available on the Rosatom Africa website.
