50,000 tonnes of DAP fertilizer arrive in Dar ahead of planting season

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Fertilizer Company (TFC) has imported over 50,000 tonnes of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer to meet farmers’ needs for the current agricultural season.

TFC Managing Director Samuel Mshote made the statement, noting that the fertilizer arrived on the BC Zoe vessel from Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

Elaborating, the Director stated that the government aims to import a total of 97,000 tonnes of DAP fertilizer this season, with the initial shipment of 50,000 tonnes covering approximately 60 percent of the target.

Moreover, he assured farmers that the company will continue supplying fertilizers and preparing for uthe pcoming planting seasons.

“As a government-owned company, we will ensure that every farmer receives the fertilizer they need for each season,” he said.

Moreover, he said that fertilizer usage in the country has increased significantly, from 300,000 tonnes three years ago to 900,000 tonnes per year currently.

The government’s long-term goal is to reach over 1.2 million tonnes annually across all fertilizer types, while also promoting domestic fertilizer production to reduce reliance on imports.
