Zanzibar clerics call for stronger moral upbringing of children and youth

ZANZIBAR: RELIGIOUS leaders have called for a stronger moral upbringing of children and youth, stressing early religious guidance as key to building a disciplined and responsible society.
Deputy Mufti of Zanzibar Mahmoud Mussa Wadi made the statement on Wednesday during a Qur’an memorization competition held in Mjini District, Unguja, which drew participation from various leaders and community members.

The Mufti noted that good community values stem from proper upbringing rooted in religion from an early age.

Additionally, he said that moral decline remains a challenge in society, but collective efforts and open dialogue can help rebuild strong ethical foundations.
Meanwhile, Kikwajuni Member of Parliament and Minister of State, Vice President’s Office, Hamadi Yussuf Masauni, said the long-running competition has played a key role in nurturing youth and instilling discipline and values.

He added that the Kikwajuni constituency continues to support vulnerable children, particularly in accessing education, as part of broader efforts to empower young people.
