UDSM research hits global top-tier journals

DAR ES SALAAM: MORE than half of the research produced by the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is now published in top-tier international journals, underscoring the institution’s growing global academic standing.
The milestone was announced during the Education, Skills and Innovation Week in Tanga, where the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, honoured over 14 UDSM researchers for high-impact publications.
UDSM Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Professor Nelson Boniface, said 52 per cent of the university’s research papers are indexed in leading global databases such as Web of Science and Scopus (Q1), alongside major academic publishers, including Elsevier. He noted that publications in these premier journals have risen by 16 per cent.
“Fifty-two per cent of research produced by UDSM researchers is published in highstandard international journals, including Q1-ranked publications indexed in Web of Science and Scopus,” said Prof Boniface.
He added that the achievement strengthens the university’s contribution to national development, particularly in health, natural sciences, biology and engineering.
