WHI set to construct 250 staff houses in Dar es Salaam

DAR ES SALAAM: WATUMISHI Housing Investment (WHI) plans to build more than 250 houses for public servants in Dar es Salaam this financial year, targeting the country’s housing needs through a major residential project.
Speaking yesterday at the ‘Sabasaba’ grounds, where WHI is showcasing its activities, Acting Chief Executive Architect Sephania Solomon said the housing project will be built at Mbezi Beach, Jangwani area.
“We have a major project that we will kick off its implementation during this financial year. We will construct more than 250 houses at Mbezi Beach, in the Jangwani area near Jangwani and are specifically for our public servants,” Mr Solomon said.
He said the project is intended to address housing challenges facing workers by providing them with decent accommodation located close to essential social services and transport infrastructure.
According to Mr Solomon, the investment reflects WHI’s commitment to improving employee welfare while supporting the government’s broader agenda of expanding access to quality housing.
“Housing is an important part of employee welfare. When workers have decent places to live, they are able to perform their duties more effectively and contribute more to the institution’s development,” he said.
The project comes as demand for residential housing continues to rise in Dar es Salaam, driven by rapid urbanization, population growth and increasing demand for planned housing developments.

He added that the organization remains committed to investing in long-term projects that strengthen its operations while creating lasting social and economic benefits.
“Our focus is to continue implementing projects that improve the welfare of our employees and support national development. This housing project is one of the major initiatives we are undertaking during this financial year, Mr Solomon said.
Meanwhile, Mr Solomon said WHI is also implementing the UDSM Hillpark Complex, a commercial development project located within the University of Dar es Salaam campus, as part of its investment in modern infrastructure and business facilities.
The project has reached more than 30 per cent completion and is expected to be fully completed by June 2027.
The development will feature retail outlets, conference facilities, children’s recreational areas, banking services and office spaces.
