Universities urged to embrace AI in teaching

MOROGORO: MZUMBE University Chancellor, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein has urged lecturers to embrace innovative, technology-driven teaching methods to prepare students for a rapidly changing digital world shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Speaking at the university’s 25th graduation ceremony at its Main Campus in Maekani, Mvomero District, Morogoro Region, Dr Shein said advances in AI were transforming how information was collected, processed and shared, requiring higher learning institutions to adapt.
“AI has a great capacity to process information and events quickly, highlighting the need for higher education institutions to prepare for these changes so that they do not lag behind,” he said.
However, Dr Shein cautioned that AI should complement rather than replace human judgement, ethical considerations and accountability in decision-making.
He urged lecturers to integrate technology into teaching while equipping students with the knowledge to use AI responsibly and ethically.

Mzumbe University Vice-Chancellor, Prof William Mwegoha, said the institution was strengthening the contribution of higher education to national development through participation in international forums and engagement with global stakeholders.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for academic affairs, Prof Elizabeth Genda, congratulated the graduates and urged them to approach life’s challenges with courage, discipline and perseverance.
She said graduates needed to remain determined, work hard and uphold ethical values as they assumed their responsibilities in society.
“Life has its ups and downs; therefore, graduates should be courageous and disciplined throughout their life journeys so that they can overcome challenges that may arise as they carry out their responsibilities in society,” she said.
