Twiga eye back-to-back wins over Malawi

DAR ES SALAAM: TWIGA Stars will be looking to build on their winning momentum when they face Malawi Women’s National Team in the second international friendly match at KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam today.

The Tanzanian women’s national team heads into the encounter with confidence after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Malawi in the first friendly played on Wednesday.

Despite the win, Twiga Stars Assistant Coach Edna Lema insists her side is focused on improving its performance and correcting mistakes identified from the first match.

“We had a good Wednesday game. We prepared to win and we won the clash,” said Lema. “Winning the previous game does not mean we did not make errors. We learned from the mistakes and worked on them during our training sessions.

We want to win again because it is a good test of how prepared we are for our forthcoming competitions, especially as Malawi will also be competing in WAFCON just like us.” Lema believes another positive result would demonstrate the team’s progress and readiness ahead of future assignments.

“Winning the game will prove how much we have improved from our previous game,” she added. On the other side, Malawi Women’s National Team Head Coach Lovemore Bazil is expecting a stronger showing from his players after their narrow defeat in the first meeting.

Bazil admitted that his team paid the price for failing to convert the scoring opportunities they created on Wednesday and promised tactical adjustments for the return match.

“We expect to offer a different game from the Wednesday match,” said Bazil. “We had a few issues, including failing to convert our chances into goals, and Tanzania punished us when they got their opportunities.

We will have a different game and make a few changes from our last appearance.” The friendly provides both teams with an important opportunity to assess their squads and sharpen preparations ahead of upcoming international competitions.
