AFRICA REGION IV GOLF MEN’S TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: TZ climbs to 3rd in Mauritius

MAURITIUS: TANZANIA produced an impressive second-round performance to climb from fifth to third place at the ongoing Africa Region IV Men’s Team Championship at Tamarina Golf Club in Mauritius on Friday.
After opening the tournament with a team score of 18-over-par in the first round, the Tanzanian side responded strongly by posting a nine-over-par score in the second round, reducing their overall tally to 27-over-par and moving up two places on the leaderboard.
The remarkable improvement placed Tanzania behind hosts Mauritius, who led the competition at fourover-par, and Kenya, who occupy second place at 12-over-par. Tanzania’s rise was largely inspired by experienced golfer Isiaka Dunia, who delivered one of the best performances of the day.
Dunia carded a secondround score of 73 after opening with 78, moving up eight places to eighth in the individual standings with a total score of seven-over-par 151. Enoshi Wanyeche also continued to impress, finishing the second round tied for eighth position alongside Dunia on seven-over-par 151 after rounds of 75 and 76.
Victor Joseph registered a notable recovery after an opening-round 81, returning a six-over-par 76 in the second round to climb five places and move into 15th position overall on 13-over-par 157 to complete best three team scores.
Although Jumanne Ally struggled to improve on his first-round performance, carding 87 after an opening 86, the contributions of Dunia, Wanyeche and Victor proved enough to propel Tanzania up the team rankings.
The team’s strong display vindicated the confidence expressed by Tanzania national team head coach and professional golfer Fadhil Nkya before the tournament.

Ahead of the championship, Nkya said the squad was in high spirits and fully prepared for the regional competition, expressing belief that the blend of experience and determination within the team would enable Tanzania to compete strongly against the region’s best golfers.
Seychelles finished fourth on +30-over par, tied with Réunion, who dropped from third to fifth on the same score, while Burundi closed the second round in sixth place on +45-over par. In the individual competition, Mauritius’ Ludovic Bax de Keating maintained his lead at four-under-par 140, while Kenya’s Adrian Andrade sits second on two-under-par 142.
Malawi’s Kamoza Longwe occupies third place on one-overpar 145. With more rounds remaining, Tanzania will be aiming to maintain its upward momentum and challenge for an even higher finish in both the team and individual categories.
