Tanzanian firms jointly launch a hydrogen-based clean cooking energy system

DAR ES SALAAM: THE private organization Bora Women Go Green, in collaboration with the National Environment Management Council (NEMC) and the University of Dar es Salaam, has today, March 25, 2026, launched a conference for a hydrogen-based clean cooking energy system.

 The event took place at Nkurumah Hall at the University of Dar es Salaam and aimed to promote the adoption of clean energy in the country.

Speaking at the launch, the event’s Chief Guest, Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President (Union and Environment), Dr. Festo Dugange, described the launch as a critical step toward achieving the goals of the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy.

Dr Dugange emphasized that addressing environmental challenges and the impacts of climate change requires increased efforts in environmental conservation and management, investment in alternative energy sources, and systems to enhance resilience to climate change.

He noted that the government aims to ensure that 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2030, highlighting solutions such as electricity, biogas, hydrogen, natural gas, solar energy, improved cookstoves, and alternative charcoal as sustainable options.

Meanwhile, NEMC Director General, Dr. Immaculate Sware Semesi, said the launch signifies not only technological progress but also an investment in innovation and the potential of Tanzanian youth. She added that using the new system could transform communities by reducing costs, protecting health from cooking smoke, and preserving the environment, while commending all institutions involved in making the conference successful.
