TZ lauded as leader in clean cooking energy

DODOMA: THE Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Innocent Luoga, has called on Ministry of Energy staff to intensify efforts to promote clean cooking energy in Tanzania, an agenda championed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

He made the remarks yesterday in Dodoma, while opening the third session of the second Staff Council meeting of the Ministry of Energy, on behalf of the ministry’s Permanent Secretaries.

“The clean cooking energy agenda is already showing significant progress in Tanzania, earning recognition internationally, including among countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC),” said Commissioner Luoga.

He highlighted that at a recent SADC meeting, speeches, including one from the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, acknowledged and commended Tanzania’s efforts.

“In the final resolutions prepared by the SADC Secretariat, all member states were urged to support Tanzania’s clean cooking energy initiatives,” he added.

Commissioner Luoga commended President Samia for her leadership in advancing the agenda and praised ministry staff for implementing programmes that improve public health and reduce environmental damage.

During the meeting which focused on reviewing, discussing and approving the ministry’s budget proposals for 2026/2027, he urged Council members to ensure all priority areas receive adequate funding to enable efficient service delivery.

He also called on staff to uphold public service ethics in executing their duties, stressing the need to avoid negligence, corruption and prioritising personal interests over serving Tanzanians.

The Staff Council meeting was attended by regional and branch leaders of TUGHE, as well as representatives from institutions under the Ministry of Energy
