Tanzania says ready to host CHAN after rehabilitation of all stadia

DODOMA: TANZANIA has confirmed its readiness to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled to kick off in August this year after completing preparations of the selected venues designated for the tournament.

This statement was made in Parliament in Dodoma by the Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Hamis Mwinjuma, while responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Makete Constituency, Festo Sanga, who inquired about the country’s preparedness for the continental-level competition.

In his response, Mwinjuma stated that preparations are progressing well and the selected venues for the tournament are fully ready.

 “As for Tanzania, our stadiums are ready, even if the tournament were to start next month,” he affirmed.

He elaborated that the renovation of Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam has been completed, as well as preparations at Amani Stadium in Zanzibar. Regarding training grounds, he noted that Dar es Salaam has three: the Law School Ground, Gymkhana Ground, and Major General Isamuyo stadium—all of which are in advanced stages of readiness.

The Deputy Minister also clarified that the reports issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are part of routine inspections aimed at ensuring that all areas requiring improvements are addressed accordingly.

Overall, Tanzania has demonstrated its commitment and capability to successfully host the CHAN tournament, with the government continuing to closely monitor the implementation of all CAF recommendations.
