CAF Commends TZ for CHAN 2025 preparations

DAR ES SALAAM: CONFEDERATION of African Football (CAF) has expressed solid satisfaction with Tanzania’s significant strides in upgrading sports infrastructure ahead of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) that the country will co-host with Kenya and Uganda.

This endorsement came during a high-profile inspection tour by a CAF delegation headed by Secretary General Veron Mosengo-Omba and Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Gerson Msigwa.

During their visit to Dar es Salaam, the CAF officials inspected a range of key venues, including the iconic Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, as well as major training sites such as Gymkhana Grounds, Major General Isamuhyo and the School of Law fields.

“The purpose of this visit was to assess Tanzania’s level of preparedness to host this prestigious continental tournament, scheduled for August 2025 and the delegation commended the government for its unwavering commitment and sustained investment in sports infrastructure,” said Msigwa.

He further elaborated on Tanzania’s broader ambitions: “We shared our long-term vision to build additional stadiums and enhance existing training grounds, reaffirming our resolve to advance football and sports development nationwide.”

In a strong show of readiness, Msigwa confirmed that Tanzania has already met its financial obligations, including the official CHAN 2025 hosting fee.

“Our flagship venue, the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, is fully operational and has been cleared for use during the tournament,” he stated confidently.

He also highlighted the rapid progress on training facilities, noting that 90 per cent of the planned construction and renovations have already been completed.

“Our preparedness speaks volumes about our organisational capacity and the strategic role of sports in Tanzania’s national development agenda,” he said.

The CAF inspection is part of a broader series of assessments being conducted across the three host nations to ensure that all venues and logistical preparations align with international standards.

“We want to assure all Tanzanians and stakeholders that the country is firmly on course to deliver a tournament that will meet and exceed the expectations of CAF and football fans across Africa,” Msigwa concluded.
