Tanzania ropes in Austrian firm to advance digital education

VIENNA: THE eee Austria Company has pledged to collaborate with the Government of Tanzania in efforts to improve and advance digital education in the country.

The pledge was made by Theresa Wutz, the Authorized Signatory and Chief Project Officer of eee Austria, during talks with Prof. Carolyne Nombo, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, outside the 69th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, currently underway in Vienna, Austria. The discussions focused on establishing cooperation between the government and the company to enhance the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Tanzania’s education sector.

eee Austria is implementing the Zanzibar Digital Education Project (e-learning), having already completed the first phase of the project. The company is currently preparing to enter the second phase of implementation. The three phases of the project include: establishing electronic education management systems, providing capacity-building training for human resources, and setting up digital infrastructure and equipment for teaching and learning.

Prof. Carolyne Nombo expressed the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s readiness to work closely with eee Austria to expand the use of ICT at all levels of education in Tanzania.

On her part, Theresa Wutz confirmed that the Austrian Government, through UniCredit – Bank of Austria, will continue to provide funding for the implementation of the Zanzibar Digital Education Project. Additionally, the Austrian Government is ready to invest further to strengthen the use of ICT in schools and higher learning institutions across Tanzania.

These talks are part of the efforts by the Tanzanian Embassy in Vienna, Austria, to seek opportunities for economic cooperation and the practical implementation of economic diplomacy.

The discussions were attended by several officials, including Naimi Aziz, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to Vienna; Melckzedek Mbise, Assistant Commissioner from the Ministry of Finance; Agnes Batenga, Representative of eee Austria in Tanzania; and Ahmad Salem Halawi, Project Officer at eee Austria.
