Dr Magembe joins Tanzanian delegation at the WHO-backed 76th Session for Africa

ADDIS ABABA: TANZANIA’ S Chief Medical Officer and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr Grace Magembe, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to join the Tanzanian delegation led by Deputy Minister for Health, Dr Florence Samizi, at the 76th Session of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee for Africa.

The meeting is being held from today, August 25 to 28, 2026, with Tanzania expected to participate in discussions aimed at strengthening health systems and sharing experiences with other African countries. Dr Magembe was received in Addis Ababa by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Innocent Shiyo, alongside other Tanzanian leaders and officials based in the country.

In addition to attending the main session, Dr Magembe is expected to participate in various side meetings and other activities focusing on health and international cooperation. The engagements are intended to facilitate the exchange of experiences and strategies for improving the delivery of health services to citizens.

Tanzania’s participation in the meeting comes as the country continues to play an important role in advancing Africa’s health agenda, particularly in maternal, child and reproductive health. The agenda is also aligned with the appointment of President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, as the African Union (AU) Champion for Maternal and Child Health, a position that reflects Tanzania’s commitment to promoting the health and wellbeing of women and children across Africa.
