Tanzania outgun Bahrain at T20 Quad series in Malawi

MALAWI: TANZANIA showcased their batting firepower with a thrilling six-wicket victory over Bahrain in the Quadrangular T20 Series Arjun Menon Memorial (T20 QUAD 2025) held in Blantyre, Malawi on Tuesday.

Chasing a daunting 210- run target, Tanzania reached 215/4 with four balls to spare, thanks to a blistering 84 off just 32 balls from Arun Yadav, who was deservedly named Player of the Match.

The win keeps Tanzania firmly in contention for a spot in the final as the race intensifies with three teams now tied on points.

Batting first after Tanzania won the toss and opted to field, Bahrain posted a formidable 209/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Fiaz Ahmed was the standout with a powerful 61 off 35 balls, well supported by Asif Ali (40) and Prashant Kurup (32). Late cameos from Imran Anwar (22 off 9) and Junaid Aziz (14 off 4) lifted Bahrain past the 200 mark.

Tanzania’s bowlers toiled under pressure, with Ally Kimote picking up 2/45 and Khalidy Juma and Kassim Nassoro claiming one wicket apiece.

The Mugammad Nackerdien Head Coach side got off to a solid start through Yadav, who lit up the TCA Oval with an explosive knock laced with 9 fours and 6 sixes.

He shared a 91-run partnership with Ajith Augastin, who anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 61 off 43 deliveries.

Mukesh Suthar quickfire 30 from 16 balls kept the scoreboard ticking, while Salum Jumbe (12* off 5) finished the chase in style.

The win brings Tanzania level on points with Germany and Bahrain, each with two wins from three matches. Only net run rate separates the trio, with the final round of group fixtures set to determine the finalists.

Hosts Malawi, yet to register a win, remain bottom of the table.

In individual performances, Tanzania’s Yadav continues to dominate the tournament charts with 199 runs from three innings.

National team Captain Kimote remains among the leading wicket-takers with 7 scalps.

Tanzania’s next challenge is a rematch against Malawi, which took place yesterday, before facing Germany tomorrow; both are pivotal games en route to the finals scheduled for July 13.
