Tanzania, Oman ink new deal to broaden, share experience in media sector

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and the Sultanate of Oman have reached new agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in the media sector, including the exchange of experience, skills and professional training for journalists and media professionals from the two countries.

The agreements were signed on October 1, 2026, in Dar es Salaam during the Tanzania-Oman Journalists’ Forum. The Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) also signed an agreement with the Oman Journalists Association to promote professional cooperation between media practitioners in the two countries.

Opening the forum, Director of the Middle East Department at Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Abdallah Kilima, urged journalists from both countries to use their professional skills to produce and disseminate accurate information that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations and creating opportunities for the two nations.

Ambassador Kilima also emphasised the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve news production and contribute to building safer societies.

He said the media has an important role to play in promoting tourism, highlighting investment opportunities and encouraging positive social values.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Tanzania Union of Media Workers (JOWUTA), Mussa Juma, said the forum was established on the foundation of the long-standing and friendly relations between Tanzania and Oman.

He said the platform would provide journalists from both countries with an opportunity to exchange experiences and enhance their professional skills, while also promoting cooperation in areas such as tourism and investment.

The forum was attended by government officials, media leaders and other stakeholders from Tanzania and Oman, including Oman’s Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Saud bin Hilal Al Shidhani, and Chairman of the Oman Journalists Association Board, Dr Mohamed Mubarak.
