Tanzania, Oman open new strategic and historic chapter in their first Bilateral Consultations meeting

MUSCAT: A new strategic and historic chapter has officially been opened in diplomatic and economic relations between the United Republic of Tanzania and the Sultanate of Oman following the first Bilateral Consultations Meeting between the two countries since the signing of the Political Consultations Agreement in 2009.

The meeting, held in Muscat, Oman, on September 28, 2026, was led by Oman’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Khalifa Al-Harthy. The two sides agreed to strengthen their longstanding fraternal and friendly relations by leveraging their geographic positions as important gateways and hubs for trade and investment between Africa and the Gulf.

Speaking during the meeting, Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Dennis Londo, said the consultations marked a major institutional step aimed at turning goodwill between the two countries into tangible results.

Londo thanked Oman for its continued investment in Tanzania across various sectors and invited investors through the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) to explore opportunities in processing industries, natural gas and mining.

The OIA has expressed interest in investing in Tanzania through commercial partnerships and public-private partnership (PPP) projects.

During the consultations, Tanzania and Oman held detailed discussions on the importance of increasing exchanges of leaders and experts at various levels to create greater opportunities for sharing experience, knowledge and expertise, as well as strengthening the implementation of bilateral agreements.

The two countries also discussed cooperation in key strategic sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture, health, education, the blue economy, employment and formal job opportunities, tourism and cultural heritage.

The areas of cooperation are expected to contribute to the effective implementation of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 and Oman Vision 2040.

The meeting marks a new direction in the diplomatic relations between Tanzania and Oman, moving beyond their longstanding cultural and historical ties towards stronger trade cooperation, strategic investment and economic opportunities aimed at benefiting the citizens of both countries.
