Tanzania, Morocco deepen their bilateral ties in marking the 27 year-reign of King Mohammed VI

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Ngwaru Maghembe, has reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Morocco during celebrations marking the 27th anniversary of the enthronement of King Mohammed VI.

The event, hosted by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, was held at the Moroccan Ambassador’s Residence in Dar es Salaam on Thursday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Maghembe said relations between Tanzania and Morocco have continued to grow stronger since King Mohammed VI’s State Visit to Tanzania in 2016.

He noted that the visit resulted in the signing of 22 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering key areas, including defence and security, trade and investment, agriculture, tourism, transport, health, education, culture and sports.

Dr Maghembe also commended Morocco for promoting sports diplomacy through international cooperation and for successfully preparing to host major continental football tournaments, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). He further noted Tanzania’s role as a co-host of the 2027 AFCON alongside Kenya and Uganda.

Moroccan Ambassador to Tanzania, Zakaria El Goumiri, said Morocco highly values its longstanding diplomatic relations with Tanzania and remains committed to deepening cooperation across various sectors for the mutual benefit of both countries.
