Tanzania installs modern systems to strengthen border security 

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has installed modern systems and equipment through the Customs and Excise Department in a bid to strengthen border security, the Tanzania  Revenue Authority (TRA) Commissioner General Yusuph Mwenda announced this today.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, he said that the government has facilitated the purchase and installation of 57 modern scanners that have increased border control.

He said that through the 57 scanners that have been installed at the ports, borders, and airports, they have been able to prevent unauthorized goods from entering the country and control controlled goods from entering the country as well as save the health of Tanzanians from dangerous goods.

“The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, has been at the forefront in providing us with guidelines and enabling us to carry out our responsibilities to serve the country. We are very grateful to him, and we promise to continue working with effort and knowledge,” said Mwenda.

He said that apart from enabling TRA through the huge investment he made in the Port of Dar es Salaam and other ports in the country, it has enabled an increase in Customs revenue from 800bn/- to 1.200Tri/- and made the contribution of the Customs Department to TRA collections to 39 percent of all collections, which is something to be proud of.

He said that in terms of technology, President Samia has invested in the TANCIS system, which has improved customer operations and increased efficiency by enabling taxpayers to access services online.

He called on all TRA employees to increase efficiency, effort, and knowledge in their daily work while commending them for their dedication and facilitating the collection of a large amount of tax that had never been collected in the past decades of  4.13Tri/- recorded in December 2025.
