Tanzania golfers struggle, fail to make cut at Uganda Pro Open
TANZANIAN professional golfers faced a challenging day at the Uganda Professional Open Golf Championship, with none of the six competitors advancing past the second round at Entebbe Golf Club.
The tournament, which features 120 top golfers from 11 African countries, began on Wednesday and will conclude tomorrow.
Representing Tanzania are Elisante Lembris, Nuru Mollel, Fadhil Nkya, Isaac Wanyeche, Salum Dilunga and Rajab Iddi.
Last year, Tanzanian golfers Mollel, Nkya and Wanyeche successfully made the cut at the prestigious Uganda Open held at Kitante Golf Club in Kampala.
However, this year’s event proved tougher, with all six golfers failing to advance.
Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC)’s Lembris had high hopes after an impressive level-par 71 in the first round.

Unfortunately, his second-round score of 78 brought his total to +7, just missing the cut which was set at +6.
Mollel, a favourite from AGC, and Nkya from Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club struggled in the first round, carding 81 and 83 respectively.
Iddi, aiming for his breakthrough at the Uganda Open, posted 83 in the opening round and added 85 in the second, resulting in an early exit.
Mollel and Nkya showed improvement in the sec ond round, with Mollel scoring 72 and Nkya 75.
How ever, their totals of +11 and +16 over two rounds were insufficient to advance.
Dilunga, who scored 77 in the first round, finished with 78 in the second round, totaling +13 and also failing to make the cut.
Out of the 120 professionals only 40, including players from Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Nige ria, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania and host Uganda, progressed to the third round.
Zambian golfer Dayne Moore leads the tournament with a total score of 5-under par (64, 73), holding a five-shot advantage over his nearest competitors.
