DAR ES SALAAM: MINISTER for Culture, Art and Sports Damas Ndumbaro has called on Tanzania’s national golf envoys to aim for victory at the forthcoming 2024 NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale, set to take place at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya later this year.
Minister Ndumbaro made a statement over the weekend at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC), where Ernest Sengeu emerged as a surprising second series overall winner and earned a spot to represent Tanzania.
Sengeu, the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) competition secretary, carded an impressive 76 gross to secure the title on count back, narrowly edging out Stephen Chuwalo, who finished as the overall second.
Sengeu will join the Arusha series winner and the third series champion, to be determined later, in representing Tanzania at the annual NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale in Kenya.
Addressing, Ndumbaro emphasised the importance of their role in representing the nation with distinction.
“I want to remind the winners that they are not just competing for themselves but for Tanzania,” Ndumbaro said.
“We need to organise ourselves to provide them with the best support before they head to Kenya, ensuring they have a strong chance of success.”
He urged the players to approach the tournament with perseverance, dedication and commitment, underscoring the national pride at stake.
“We want them to understand that they are going to Nairobi with all the dedication and commitment necessary to make us proud,” he added.
Minister Ndumbaro emphasised the importance of the upcoming competition, urging Tanzania’s representatives to aim for victory and showcase the nation’s talent on an international stage.
The Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club of Dar es Salaam handicap secretary Sengeu promise to put hard work in training as usual to have any chance to return home with a trophy.
“I overcame a stiff challenge from my good friend Chuwalo, he is also a very good player. We challenge each other every day.
And today give me a good challenge. Thank you very much for pushing forward,” he stressed as he thanked the organisers for a wonderful event.
