Tanzania eyes to launch free medical outreach mission in Mozambique

PEMBA: TANZANIA is planning to deploy a free medical outreach programme in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado Province in a move aimed at strengthening cross-border health cooperation and improving access to specialised healthcare services.

The proposal was presented by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Mozambique, CP Hamad Khamis Hamad, during talks with Cabo Delgado Governor Valige Tauabo, who welcomed the initiative and pledged the provincial government’s support for its implementation.

The proposed medical camp will offer free treatment and disease screening to residents of Cabo Delgado, a province facing healthcare and diagnostic challenges.

According to Ambassador Hamad, the initiative had already been presented to the Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, whose management has expressed readiness to deploy medical specialists once the provincial authorities give formal approval.

Governor Tauabo and the province’s Director of Health described the proposal as timely and committed to working closely with the Tanzanian Embassy to ensure the medical camp benefits communities in Cabo Delgado.

As part of the preparations, both sides agreed that a team of specialists from Benjamin Mkapa Hospital will undertake a working visit to Pemba to assess healthcare needs and identify a suitable site for the outreach programme.
