DODOMA: TANZANIA’S economic growth has soared to 5.9 per cent in 2025, from 5.6 per cent in recorded 2024, and is projected to rise to 6.3 per cent in 2026.

Deputy Minister for Finance, Engineer Mshamu Munde, made the statement in Parliament in Dodoma on October 29, 2026, while responding to a question from Kigoma Urban Member of Parliament Clayton Chipando, popularly known as Baba Levo.

Eng Munde said the government was continuing to implement various measures to ensure that citizens benefited from the country’s economic growth.

He listed the measures as increasing credit to the private sector, investing in major infrastructure projects, including the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), the Kigongo–Busisi Bridge and the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project, as well as providing subsidies for fertilisers and other agricultural inputs.

He added that the government was also empowering citizens economically through loans provided by local government authorities using 10 per cent of their revenues, alongside support through the Machinga Fund.

The measures are aimed at expanding economic opportunities and improving citizens’ livelihoods.
