Tanzania eases mining trade in 44 mineral markets, 118 buying centres countrywide

DODOMA: PRIME Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has said that the government has stepped up efforts to strengthen the mining sector as part of a broader strategy to increase national revenue and expand employment opportunities.

Presenting the government’s budget speech and outlook for the 2026/2027 financial year in the Parliament in Dodoma, Dr Nchemba said the mining sector continues to serve as a key pillar in driving economic growth, alongside natural resources and tourism.

Elaborating, the PM stated that the government has strengthened the management of 44 mineral markets and 118 mineral buying centres to improve transparency, ease trade for miners, enhance efficiency as well as maximise benefits from the sector.

Moreover, the Premier directed the Ministry of Minerals to establish a robust framework to regulate contracts between licence holders and foreign investors with the aim of safeguarding national interests, ensuring Tanzanians fully benefit from the country’s mineral wealth, and minimising conflicts between small-scale miners and large investors.
