Tanzania, DR Congo seek to bolster ties in trade and investment as President Tshisekedi begins a tour of Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are set to deepen trade and investment ties as President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo begins a two-day state visit to Tanzania today.
President Tshisekedi, who arrives in the country following an invitation by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, is expected to hold official talks with President Samia in Zanzibar, focusing on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, mining, energy, infrastructure and transport.
According to information released by the Government Communication Unit, the two leaders’ discussions will also cover health, digital connectivity, as well as peace, security and regional stability.
Additionally, the statement noted that the two leaders are also expected to address the media after their talks on the agreements reached to further strengthen relations between Tanzania and the DRC.

The visit, which runs from August 17 to 18, marks President Tshisekedi’s third visit to Tanzania, following his previous visits in 2019 and 2022, which contributed to stronger cooperation in infrastructure, port services, trade and investment.
The latest visit is aimed at further strengthening the historical and diplomatic ties between the two countries, while advancing economic cooperation and identifying joint projects and measures to remove barriers affecting trade and investment.
The two countries are also expected to reaffirm their commitment to peace, security and regional cooperation, reflecting their shared interest in promoting stability and economic development in the region.
